Ep 68: A Gnome Ran Across My Bed!: Maintaining Childhood Wonder

I chat to a woman originally from the south east of England, about her real experiences with fairy beings. They include childhood levitation, a bedroom based fairy visitation, and a multiple-witness sighting of a tiny humanoid disappearing into a hedge. She describes seeing orbs inside her bedroom as a child as well as lights in trees and we hear the strange case of a fairy-related text message which the sender had not written!

⭐️ In the bonus episode ⭐️

The bonus share is the story of a ‘Stick Man’ or ‘Tree Being’ which she and her husband became used to seeing around their home in New York State.  I hold a special place in my heart for these creatures. Having seen one myself a number of years ago. They appear to be sensitive, peaceful beings who are connected with the land in which they appear and are perhaps even guardians of that land. We hear snippets of previous guests encounters with Stick Men (some of them previous exclusive bonuses)

Some of the experiences described may be unsettling for some listeners who are sensitive to creepy content. These stories are not suitable for children.

Ep 67: Patrick Harpur: Daimons and The Otherworld

To kick off series 7 we are joined by author, Patrick Harpur who is well known to many of us for his book, Daimonic Reality: A Field Guide to the Otherworld. I also highly recommend reading The Philosopher’s Secret Fire: A History of the Imagination which sheds a lot of light on the sorts of experiences we hear about on this show, along with his other non-fiction book, A Complete Guide to the Soul.

Here we talk about Patrick’s family’s relationship with the Otherworld and whether an openness to their existence aids the potential for personal encounters. We ponder the eccentricity of our modern western culture in denying the existence of daimons and Patrick offers ideas about which gods may be ruling us at this time.

I hope you enjoy this discussion. Let me know on Instagram and Twitter.

Patrick reveals his fascinating, childhood treasure-finding experience. Locating treasure is very much connected with beings from the fairy realm. It’s a lovely share.

Ep 64: ‘The People That Aren’t People’

A woman from San Diego, California shares a whole host of extraordinary encounters with people who took the appearance of human beings but felt decisively, not-of-this-world.

From a strangely terrifying family in a Walmart car park to a disappearing cowboy, you may well find that these stories strike a chord with some odd encounters of your own.

Perhaps the most intriguing of all, ‘The Hitchhiker’ may lead you to question what is really ‘real’ anymore. Is the Universe communing with our subconscious by way of metaphors and archetypes?

Some of the experiences described may be unsettling for some listeners who are sensitive to creepy content. These stories are not suitable for children.

⭐️ In the bonus episode ⭐️

🌚 Our guest shares some more personal experiences which took place just outside her home and also more recently, within her home.

Ep 61: Wollaton Gnomes Special with Kate Ray and Dr Neil Rushton

This episode, is part of a Wollaton Special which initially released on Sunday evening as a video on my YouTube channel. If you are not familiar with the Wollaton Gnomes encounter here’s a short explanation:

On 23rd September 1979, six school children reported encountering thirty gnomes driving ‘Noddy’ type cars around Wollaton Park, near where they lived in Nottingham. It had taken place around 8.15pm, while they were playing.

After a series of events, they ran from the park and some of the younger children appeared to be traumatised afterwards. Upon return to school, their headmaster tape recorded separate interviews with all the children.

They answered a number of questions about their experiences and gave detailed descriptions of the gnomes. This transcript still exists and is available here.

In the following days, local and national press released articles about the incident. The case eventually went quiet. To date, the witnesses have been unresponsive to multiple appeals to discuss the event.

In 2022, Dr Simon Young published a collection of essays about the Nottingham fairy mystery which, I contributed to along with some other researchers including Dr Jack Hunter, Dr Neil Rushton, and Kate Ray.

Neil, Kate and I recently took an expedition to Wollaton Park and in the YouTube version I’ve included a short film about what we did there. If you are interested, I’d recommend going there and watching the film and please do subscribe as it all really helps the Project. But Effectively, we we aimed to connect with the landscape and sense out the areas where events may possibly have taken place.

At the end of our gnome wander video we hold a debrief session which took place a couple of days after our trip. I’ll be sharing that debrief session here in this episode. We plan further expeditions later this year and I will produce more episodes about the case later in the year.

Watch this space for further action in this area and I hope you enjoy the episode.

Ep 59: The Burgundy Kingdom – Shropshire Fairies

This episode, full of childhood encounters, holds a particularly enchanting quality. As a sick child lies in bed, he is visited by pixies. On another occasion, at the end of the Second World War, a terrifying goblin appears at the end of his bed. A member of the same family later experiences a bedtime parade of magical wonders. Her resulting dream journeys to a ‘Burgundy Kingdom’ makes her wish dearly that she could return.

Some of those experiences are beautiful and wondrous while others are quite unsettling. A further reminder that this podcast is not suitable for children or for those who are sensitive to creepy content.

⭐️On the bonus episode we hear more about the history of the house including a particularly unnerving event which took place soon after the passing of its owner. In that same bonus we will hear about our guest’s experience at the famous 800 year old oak tree, Old Knobbly in Essex.⭐️
