I speak to a man in Auckland New Zealand, who grew up in what was originally native bush land. As a child, he had what sounds like a gnome encounter inside his home. His response to the frightening experience had a profound effect on how he decided to live his life from that point forward.
Our guest’s inspiring story suggests what may be possible if we can look beyond our fears and lean into communication with landscape and the non-human beings who reside there.
It feels like an important story for us to hear at this time.

A fascinating tale for sure, but would surely be improved with the addition of some geographical specificity. As an NZ resident, I actually selected this episode above all others after my YT feed alerted me to the site.
Notwithstanding any of that, the second location had to be Woodhill Forest which is a plantation forest NW of Auckland containing hills and lakes. I think the reason for the negative energy encountered was the very fact of being a plantation forest. I used to come across exactly the same thing in my local plantation forest, Waiuku – SW of Auckland. I’d be out there walking my dog when all of a sudden the birdsong ceases and I’d be engulfed in an atmosphere of malevolence in which I’d be in no doubt of my status as an unwelcome interloper. This happened a few times before I learned that trees have consciousness, and a few friendly words to the trees on entering the forest would ensure an uneventful ramble. You see, for a tree living in a forestry plantation, life is short and unpleasant – so you can’t blame them for resentment toward humans.
Anyway, great episode and great podcast, so thanks must goto You Tube and their mysterious algorithms. Also thanks to Jo for putting this all together and being a rare voice of (truthful) wisdom on the ‘editorial’ bits.
Love n light all
Thank you. I”m delighted you found the Podcast! Please do share on with others who might enjoy it too. In answer to your query: I personally never give the exact location – unless it’s a well known place of pilgrimage already like Glastonbury Tor. You and I would be respectful of the landscape and of the beings that live there…but not everybody is – so we need to protect these places, as I’m sure you understand. Thanks so much for listening. And thanks also for sharing your experience of being out there and communing with the landscape!
